Hollywood Museum
The Hollywood Museum, the official museum of Hollywood, has the most extensive collection of Hollywood memorabilia in the world. The museum, featuring four floors of breathtaking exhibits, is home to more than 10,000 authentic show biz treasures– one of a kind costumes, props, photographs, scripts, stars’ car collections and personal artifacts, posters, and vintage memorabilia from favorite films and TV shows. The museum also showcases the history of Hollywood and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Der Academy Award
offizieller Name Academy Award of Merit, besser bekannt unter seinem Spitznamen Oscar, ist ein Filmpreis, der alljährlich von der US-amerikanischen Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) für die besten Filme des Vorjahres verliehen wird. Wegen der Zulassungsprozedur dominieren die Siegerlisten in der Regel US-Produktionen. Die bisher letzte Verleihung fand am 28. Februar 2016 in Los Angeles statt. Die nächste Verleihung wird voraussichtlich am 26. Februar 2017 stattfinden.
Die Auszeichnung wurde am 12. Februar 1929 vom damaligen Präsidenten der MGM Studios, Louis B. Mayer, ins Leben gerufen, acht Jahre nach der Verleihung des Photoplay Awards, der als erster Filmpreis der Welt gilt. Der Oscar wird in einer gemeinsamen Zeremonie in derzeit über 30 verschiedenen Kategorien vergeben; die Preisträger erhalten eine Statuette, die einen Ritter mit einem Schwert auf einer Filmrolle darstellt.
Studios
Der Begriff Studiosystem beziehungsweise Hollywood-System bezieht sich auf die erfolgreiche oligopole Wirtschaftsweise der großen Hollywood-Studios in den 1920er bis 1940er Jahren. Zwar impliziert der Begriff, dass Studios, also die Produktionsstätten für Filme, den entscheidenden Faktor im Filmgeschäft ausmachten. Doch bezieht sich der Begriff hier auf wenige große Gesellschaften, die zu dieser Zeit Produktion, Filmverleih und -vertrieb sowie Filmvorführung kontrollierten.
